World famous giant Christmas Tree arrives in New York City

It's only 43 days till Christmas - and this famous sign the holidays are coming has arrived in New York

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Christmas arrived in New York City with the arrival of the world famous Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree.

The 74-foot, 11-ton Norway Spruce was trucked in from West Stockbridge, Massachusetts to New York City.

Once outside the Rockefeller Centre, workers stood it up ready to be decorated with more than 50,000 LED lights, and a dazzling crystal star.

The lighting ceremony is scheduled for 4 December - and is one of the city’s most beloved holiday events.

The Rockefeller Center tree arrives in New York

The tree was cut down in Western Massachusetts and made its way to New York City on a flat-bed truck.

A crowd gathered in the plaza in New York to watch the tree being lifted into place.

A crane lifted the tree off the truck and held it horizontally a few feet off the ground.

Workers then drilled a hole in the bottom of the trunk and inserted a tree spike which will help to hold it in place on its stand.

Then a crane was used to raise the tree vertically as workers helped to guide the spike into the centre of the tree stand.

The spike in the base of the tree was safely secured into the tree stand by workers.

The crane helped to lift the tree up to its full standing position and then the cables were anchored onto the tree. These cables are connected to the plaza to secure the tree.

And as the tree went up spectators watching were covered in fake snow. It really is beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
