Why were 100,000 teddy bears thrown onto an ice rink?

Teddy or not - here they come.

The annual teddy bear toss has taken place in the American Hockey League in Pennsylvania.

The popular tradition sees fans throw stuffed animals on to the ice following the Hershey Bears' first goal of the game, in what's been described as "sweet cuddly mayhem".

This year was a record-breaker, according to the team, with more than 100,000 toys thrown onto the rink.

The stuffed animals will be donated to local charities.

This year, the toys went flying after Mike Sgarbossa, scored to tie the game against the Providence Bruins.

The players were soon dodging a flurry of soft animals, with a record-breaking total of 102,343 teddy bears and stuffed animals collected.

This beat the previous hockey world record of 74,599 in 2024.

The Bears went on to win the game 5-1.
