Laura Muir confident for Rio after 2014 disappointments

Laura Muir failed to make the 1500m final at the European Championships in Zurich

Laura Muir believes she has put behind her the disappointments of 2014 and is feeling confident as she bids for a place at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

Muir did not reach the 800m final at the World Indoor Championships and missed out on a medal at Glasgow 2014.

But the Scot, 21, has responded this season by improving on her best times.

"Training's going really well and I've been running a PB (personal best) quite a few times and I hope to continue that form," she told BBC Scotland.

"I would like to compete at the European Indoor Championships in Prague, that's next month, and then the world championships in Beijing later in the year - that's a really big target.

"And then, hopefully, Rio next year and the world championships will help a lot this year.

"If I can go through those three rounds and get to the final this year, that would really help."

Muir, who won the Scottish 3,000m indoor title last month, was one of the favourites for a medal at last year's World Indoor event in Poland but stumbled in her heat.

That disappointment was repeated at the Commonwealth Games, withdrawing from the 800m heats after being clipped by another athlete in the last bend of the 1500m final.

Muir, in Glasgow to promote the Emirates Arena as an Indoor Grand Prix venue, was also unable to make it through her 1500m heat at the European Championships.

"It was a huge disappointment at the time and it will probably be one of the biggest disappointments of my whole career," she said of her Glasgow 2014 experience.

"It was a very tough time, but I guess you just have to think that it's been and gone.

"There's nothing I could have done about it and I have to focus on future races to come."
