Former Olympic champion James DeGale could fight IBF and WBA super-middleweight champion Carl Froch in November or December.

Promoter Eddie Hearn said that if Froch declines the proposal, DeGale will still fight for a world title at London's O2 Arena on 11 October.

Froch was keen to face Mexico's Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in Las Vegas, but Hearn said a DeGale fight made more sense.

"In an ideal world I'd put DeGale and Froch in a ring together," said Hearn.

"Domestic fights work. DeGale is a ready-made domestic challenger for Froch and the mandatory challenger for his IBF title," added Hearn, who promotes both men.

"Carl's got aspirations to go to Vegas, but that's easier said than done. If that can't happen he's got to look at his options. His options are James DeGale or Mikkel Kessler."

Nottingham's Froch, 37, beat Kessler in a rematch in 2013 and the Danish veteran is angling for a decider, having won their first encounter in 2010.

Froch defended his titles with a devastating eighth-round knockout of George Groves at Wembley Stadium in May and is currently in training for the BBC's celebrity gymnastics show, Tumble, which is scheduled for later this summer.

The 28-year-old DeGale, who won gold for Great Britain at Beijing 2008,, external impressed on the undercard at Wembley, blasting out unbeaten American Brandon Gonzales in four rounds.

And former British and European champion DeGale, whose only defeat as a professional came against Groves in 2011, believes Froch could be an "easy" fight for him.

"His attributes are that he's strong, he's tough, he's got a good engine, a good chin - I have so much respect for what he's achieved in boxing," said DeGale.

"But I'm all wrong for him, my movement and speed would drive him mad. I'm technically so much better than him.

"It's not his time any more, he's had his time and it's time for new blood to come through.

"Froch is a proud man, he doesn't want to give up titles and Eddie [Hearn] is confident that he is going to fight me next.

"If not Froch, in my next fight I'm still making history - I'll be the first Olympic gold medallist from Great Britain to win a world title."

At a news conference on Wednesday, it was also announced that Essex lightweight Kevin Mitchell could challenge IBF champion Miguel Vazquez at the O2 Arena on 11 October.

Mitchell, 29, appeared to have blown his chance of a second world-title shot when he failed to make weight on the morning of his final eliminator against Ghislain Maduma at Wembley in May, but Hearn said talks were ongoing.

Welshman Lee Selby, the former British, European and Commonwealth featherweight champion, faces Australian Joel Brunker in an IBF world title eliminator on the same bill.

Scott Quigg will defend his WBA super-bantamweight title at the Manchester Arena on 13 September, on the same bill as Manchester lightweight Anthony Crolla, who beat cross-town rival John Murray in a thriller in April.

Macklin will headline a show in Dublin on 30 August

British and Commonwealth featherweight champion Josh Warrington, who Hearn referred to as 'The Ricky Hatton of Leeds', headlines a show in his home town on 4 October at the First Direct Arena.

Birmingham middleweight Matt Macklin, the latest signing to Hearn's Matchroom stable, will headline a show in Dublin on 30 August.

Macklin, a former British, Irish and European champion, is on the trail of a fourth world-title challenge.

Olympic heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua will also fight on the Dublin bill, assuming he sees off former world title contender Matt Skelton in Liverpool on Saturday.
