Carl Frampton v Scott Quigg makes sense says Eddie Hearn

A world title unification bout between super-bantamweights Carl Frampton and Scott Quigg is "common sense", says Quigg's promoter Eddie Hearn.

Frampton, 28, retained his IBF belt, while 26-year-old Quigg successfully defended his WBA title on Saturday.

In April, Hearn offered Frampton £1.5m to fight Quigg but the Northern Irishman turned the offer down.

"We will go back with a revised offer and try again. It's the biggest fight for them," Hearn told BBC Sport.

"Common sense tells you the fight should happen, but common sense in boxing doesn't apply. All we can do is keep trying.

"They wanted a 60-40 financial split before and I offered them 60-40 to the winner but they didn't want that, so I offered them an outright offer but they didn't want that either.

"If they fought next it would be in November and I think Carl would be up for coming to Manchester but wants that added financial edge. We will go back with a new offer on Monday."

England's Quigg stopped Spain's Kiko Martinez in two rounds in Manchester with Frampton recovering after two early knockdowns to beat Mexican Alejandro Gonzalez Jr on points in Texas, USA.

Frampton's manager Barry McGuigan said a contest between his fighter and Quigg was "a distinct possibility".

However, McGuigan added that Frampton had struggled to make the weight for his fight at the weekend and may have to move up a division.

"There are weight issues involved as Carl had to lose a considerable amount for this fight and we may move him to featherweight," said McGuigan.

"Carl needs a rest and then we'll sit down and look at what we need to do."
