Glasgow 2014: Emma Nuttall reaches Commonwealth mark

High jumper Emma Nuttall is the latest Scottish athlete to reach a Commonwealth Games qualifying standard.

The 21-year-old's 1.81m clearance in Bedford eclipses the 1.80m mark required for a place at Glasgow 2014.

The Edinburgh AC athlete, who is studying history in Canada, said: "You are relieved in a sense to post a Glasgow 2014 standard.

"I am convinced there is more to come and I can clear a bit higher. I've been over at 1.85m already this season."

Fellow high-jumper Jayne Nisbet has also surpassed the required height.

Eilish McColgan made it two Glasgow 2014 standards in a week with her 3000m steeplechase run in the Diamond League in New York (she already has the 1500m time), while hammer throwers Mark Dry and Andy Frost are safely beyond the required distances.

In total, 10 Scottish men and 15 women have achieved Glasgow standards since the qualification period for track and field 'Team Scotland' opened on 1 April.

And Scotland's female 4 x 400m team also did the required time at the Loughborough International to take the tally effectively to 27.

Only 17 Scots made the standards for the Delhi Games in 2010 before two more relay runners were added to make the track and field contingent 19.
