England batsman Kevin Pietersen has extended his contract with Surrey until the end of his international career.
He arrived at The Oval on loan from Hampshire late in the 2010 season and signed a one-year deal for 2011.
The 31-year-old played only two first-class matches and two Friends Life t20 games for Surrey last season.
"Surrey is a fantastic club," said Pietersen. "I have been really impressed with the environment and work ethic in place."
Surrey won the Clydesdale Bank 40 and were promoted from Division Two of the Championship this year.
"Their recent success is well deserved," said Pietersen. "I look forward to working with them in 2012."
Pietersen is centrally contracted by the England and Wales Cricket Board, and his appearances in domestic cricket have been restricted by England commitments in recent seasons.
He played only seven County Championship games, 17 one-day matches and two Twenty20 games during six summers at Hampshire.
He has scored 6,361 runs at an average of 50.48 in 78 Tests for England since making his debut in 2005.
