Leicestershire have signed Shakib Al Hasan as their second overseas player for this summer's FL t20 competition.

The Bangladesh star, who bats left-handed and bowls left-arm spin, is currently the world's top-ranked all-rounder in one-day internationals.

The 26-year-old will join Australia A batsman Joe Burns at Grace Road.

"Shakib's record is exceptional and I am looking forward to him helping us to achieve success this year," said head coach Phil Whitticase.

Shakib, who was recently a team-mate of Leicestershire's Josh Cobb in the Bangladesh Premier League, has scored a combined total of more than 4,000 runs and taken over 100 wickets for his country in international one-day and T20 matches.

He also has previous county experience with Worcestershire.

Chief executive Mike Siddall, who had been interested in signing West Indies star Chris Gayle, added: "We are delighted to sign a player of Shakib's experience and calibre.

"He has an excellent T20 record and I am looking forward to seeing him team up with Joe Burns."
