Stephen Moore: Derbyshire sign former Lancashire opener

Derbyshire have signed opening batsman Stephen Moore on a two-year contract.

The 33-year-old was released by Lancashire at the end of the summer, having barely featured in their Division Two Championship-winning side.

But Moore, who began his career with Worcestershire, was a regular in last season's one-day side.

He said: "As well as contributing with the bat, I'm looking forward to making a positive contribution as a senior player in the dressing room."

Moore has scored 8,843 runs during his first-class career at an average of 36.39, has passed 1,000 runs in a season on four occasions - including 2011, when Lancashire won the County Championship - and played for the England Lions team.

With Derbyshire's director of cricket Karl Krikken leaving the club following an overhaul of the coaching set-up, captain Wayne Madsen was instrumental in discussions with Moore.

Madsen said: "We are delighted. He's an experienced batsman who can have an impact in all formats and will give us valuable options as we push for success in all three domestic competitions.

"We have a number of talented young cricketers already and working with a player of Stephen's quality and experience will help both their batting and their general approach to the game."
