Week nine of the NFL was another cracker with records falling and points galore. These were the biggest talking points:

Bills beat Chiefs in latest Allen-Mahomes match-up

The 10th meeting between superstar quarterbacks Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes saw the Bills beat the Chiefs 28-21 for their fifth straight regular-season win over Kansas City.

Buffalo boosted their record to 6-2 as Allen claimed a passing touchdown and two on the ground, finishing with his best-ever completion rate in a single game (88.5%) while Mahomes had his worst (44.1%).

The Chiefs have had the better of the Bills in the play-offs but having slipped to 5-4, they must finish strong to keep their post-season streak going.

Indy's 8-1 bid falls flat in Pittsburgh

The Colts had the NFL's best record this season and were looking like Super Bowl contenders ahead of Sunday's game, but they were dominated by Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers, who won 27-20.

Colts quarterback Daniel Jones, who has been so impressive this season, turned the ball over five times, with two lost fumbles and three interceptions as the Steelers’ defence dominated.

Jones was also sacked five times, while running back Jonathan Taylor was restricted to 45 yards from 14 carries.

Bears edge victory in 89-point thriller

The lead had already changed hands five times in Cincinnati as Chicago headed into the final quarter with a 31-27 lead, but the drama was just beginning.

The Bengals trailed 41-27 with 2:15 remaining but managed to score two touchdowns in a minute after recovering an onside kick to lead 42-41.

The Bears still had 54 seconds left to snatch victory and Colston Loveland capped a thrilling finale as he burst through the Bengals’ defence to claim a 58-yard touchdown and a 47-42 win.

More late heroics see Broncos join Colts on 7-2

After a stunning fightback against the Giants in week seven, the Broncos scored 11 points in the final quarter to complete a great comeback against the Texans.

Bo Nix threw his second touchdown pass before leading a late drive that ended with Wil Lutz kicking a field goal as time expired to win 18-15.

Panthers shock Packers on the road

The Green Bay Packers came into week nine as the leading team in the NFC Conference but despite drawing level late on, Carolina won 16-13 with a field goal as time expired.

Vikings upset Lions on McCarthy return

The NFC North is now wide open after those results for Green Bay and Chicago, along with Minnesota’s win at divisional rivals Detroit, with fit-again quarterback JJ McCarthy throwing for two touchdowns and rushing for another in a 27-24 victory for the Vikings.

    Chargers improve to 6-3

Justin Herbert also claimed two touchdown passes and a rushing TD as the Los Angeles Chargers beat Tennessee 27-20, leaving the Titans with a 1-8 record.

The Raiders go for two, Geno Smith aims for Tyler Lockett, but defensive lineman DaVon Hamilton sticks up a hand to block it.

The Jaguars win in Las Vegas, and their social media team is already trolling the Raiders.

They've posted the catchphrase of the late Raiders owner Al Davis on X: "Just win, baby!"

The Jags improve to 5-3 while the Raiders continue to struggle on 2-6.

  5. FT: Bills beat the Chiefs - again!published at 00:36 GMT

Kansas City Chiefs 21-28 Buffalo Bills

In the 10th meeting between superstar quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen it goes the way most other regular season meetings have gone, as it's now five wins in a row for the Buffalo Bills.

The Chiefs, of course, are 4-0 against them in the play-offs, but after slipping to 5-4 for the season Kansas City face a tough task just to make the post-season now.

Buffalo had the better of the game throughout, bossing the line of scrimmage and using James Cook and the running game to dominate possession.

Josh Allen was basically flawless with a passing touchdown and two on the ground, while in crucial moments his tight ends caught crucial catches.

Patrick Mahomes had a tough night overall, with just a sprinkling of magic keeping the Chiefs in the game, so they've got work to do just to have a chance to avenge this defeat and face the Bills in the play-offs yet again.

  6. touchdown

Touchdown - Smith finds Bowerspublished at 00:34 GMT

Jacksonville Jaguars 30-29 Las Vegas Raiders

Ashton Jeanty's run is stuffed but no matter as Geno Smith fires a dart on the next play to find Brock Bowers at the back of the end zone.

The extra point would send us to another period of overtime or the Raiders could win it right now with a two-point conversion.

  7. Postpublished at 00:31 GMT

Jacksonville Jaguars 30-23 Las Vegas Raiders

Geno Smith finds tight end Brock Bowers for another 10 yards then is flushed out of the pocket but keeps scanning as he waits for a receiver to get open.

He finds Tre Tucker in the end zone and although he's unable to hang on, a pass interference call moves the Raiders within a yard of the goal-line.

  8. Postpublished at 00:26 GMT

Jacksonville Jaguars 30-23 Las Vegas Raiders

Geno Smith is sacked but then finds Tre Tucker for a 22-yard gain and scrambles into the red zone.

  9. Ball game - Bills win!published at 00:26 GMT

Kansas City Chiefs 21-28 Buffalo Bills

It's no good! Patrick Mahomes is forced to retreat and that makes the Hail Mary even longer, too long in fact and his lobbed pass falls just short of the end zone and the Buffalo Bills can celebrate another big win over their big rivals.

  10. Close!published at 00:25 GMT

Kansas City Chiefs 21-28 Buffalo Bills

Patrick Mahomes scrambles and fires into the end zone but the ball goes in and out of the hands of his receiver.

    One more chance...

  11. Doink!published at 00:23 GMT

Kansas City Chiefs 21-28 Buffalo Bills

My word! Matt Prater hears the dreaded doink as his field goal hits the right upright!

Patrick Mahomes has a glimmer of hope, only a glimmer as he's got just 22 seconds left in the game and 60 yards to go.

  12. Postpublished at 00:22 GMT

Kansas City Chiefs 21-28 Buffalo Bills

They run it, so Buffalo will have a shortish kick to finish off the Chiefs.

  13. Two-minute warningpublished at 00:20 GMT

Kansas City Chiefs 21-28 Buffalo Bills

The Bills run it then let the clock run down to the two-minute warning with a second down and nine.

It should be comfortable from here to run down this clock, maybe settle for a field goal that should really be enough to settle this one.

    Should they miss it though....

  14. Mostert gives Raiders hopepublished at 00:19 GMT

Jacksonville Jaguars 30-23 Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders also begin their drive with a morale-boosting kick return, as Raheem Mostert runs it back for 51 yards.

  15. touchdown

Touchdown - Jaguars take overtime leadpublished at 00:18 GMT

Jacksonville Jaguars 30-23 Las Vegas Raiders

The Jaguars go for another quarterback sneak but this time Trevor Lawrence just about does enough to claim the touchdown.

There are 3:24 left in overtime and the Raiders need a touchdown to stay alive.

  16. First downpublished at 00:16 GMT

Kansas City Chiefs 21-28 Buffalo Bills

Brilliant from Buffalo as they fake the hand-off to James Cook but then Josh Allen throws it to his running back who gets the first down and then slides down in bounds to keep the clock running.

That forces the Chiefs to take the final time out inside the final three minutes.

  17. Raiders standing firmpublished at 00:15 GMT

Jacksonville Jaguars 23-23 Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders are making a goal-line stand, stopping a quarterback sneak to bring up fourth down.

The Jags take a time-out. Are they gonna go for a touchdown or settle for a field goal?

  18. Jags on the chargepublished at 00:13 GMT

Jacksonville Jaguars 23-23 Las Vegas Raiders

Trevor Lawrence finds Parker Washington for 13 yards but then it's all about the ground game as the Jags run it over and over to get within a yard of the Raiders' end zone.

  19. Picked off!published at 00:12 GMT

Kansas City Chiefs 21-28 Buffalo Bills

Patrick Mahomes goes for broke on a big third down, but throws the ball into double coverage and Bills rookie Maxwell Hairston claims the interception.

It's just his second game in the NFL but the first-round pick out of Kentucky has showed up big time, especially on this play.

  20. Great play! - Trammell makes big kick-off returnpublished at 00:09 GMT

Jacksonville Jaguars 23-23 Las Vegas Raiders

Advantage Jags in overtime as Austin Trammell returns the kick-off for 54 yards, screaming in celebration as he runs out of bounds just past halfway.
