David Lucas: Worcestershire left-armer calls time on his career

Worcestershire seam bowler David Lucas has decided to end his career after agreeing to cancel his contract.

The 35-year-old left-armer signed a three-year deal when he joined from Northants before the 2012 season.

But having been informed that first-team chances will be minimal this summer, he and the county have come to a mutual decision to part company.

Lucas made just 10 County Championship appearances in his two seasons at New Road, taking 25 wickets.

"I'd like to thank everybody at Worcester for their understanding in reaching this decision," said Lucas. "I'm very much looking forward to continuing my business, along with progressing my coaching opportunities and spending more time with my wife and family."

Nottingham-born Lucas took 264 wickets in 95 first-class appearances, as well as claiming 117 scalps in limited overs matches.

He began his career with Nottinghamshire, in 1999 and spent five years at Trent Bridge before moving to Yorkshire in 2005, and then Northants, where he spent five years, in 2007.
