One-Day Cup: Wayne Madsen ton as Derbyshire beat Leicestershire

Wayne Madsen had never scored a one-day century before his innings of 138 and 105 not out this weekend

Derbyshire captain Wayne Madsen hit his second hundred in 24 hours as he guided his side to a seven-wicket win at Leicestershire in the One-Day Cup.

Madsen struck 105 not out as the visitors chased down Leicestershire's 248-8 with 29 balls to spare.

Earlier, Matthew Boyce's 64 was the highlight of the home side's innings as left-arm seamer Mark Footitt took 5-59.

Madsen then shared an unbroken stand of 128 with Shivnarine Chanderpaul (52 not out) to see Derbyshire home.

South Africa-born Madsen's 99-ball knock came on the back of the 138 he made in Derbyshire's 136-run win over Hampshire the previous day - his first limited overs century.

The game, which started an hour late because of a serious accident on the M1, saw Leicestershire suffer an early blow as Josh Cobb was forced to retire hurt after being struck on the thumb by Footitt.

The hosts were well placed at 114-1, but once Greg Smith was run out for 36, the innings stuttered and wickets fell at regular intervals with only Jigar Naik (36 not out) providing some late impetus.

Wes Durston (30) and Billy Godleman (43) put on 62 in the opening 10 overs before Durston and Scott Elstone fell inside seven balls.

Naik gave the hosts some hope as he bowled Godleman to leave Derbyshire 123-3, but Madsen and Chanderpaul took the game away from Leicestershire to make it two wins from two.
