Josh Davey excels as Scotland beat Afghanistan by 150 runs

Davey is the first Scottish player to make 50 and take five wickets in a one-day international.

Josh Davey made an unbeaten half century and took six wickets as Scotland hammered Afghanistan by 150 runs in the Dubai Triangular Series.

Scotland recovered from 75-5 to post 213-7 thanks to a 99-run partnership between Richie Berrington (62) and Davey (53 not out).

Skipper Preston Mommsen chipped in with 31 from 40 balls.

Afghanistan were then skittled out for 63, with Davey supported by Iain Wardlaw, who took four wickets.

Scotland lost to Afghanistan by eight wickets in their opening match and were beaten by Ireland on Monday.

But Davey inspired a morale-boosting win against next month's World Cup opponents, becoming the first Scottish player to make 50 and take five wickets in a one-day international, before going beyond that mark.

All-rounder Majid Haq became Scotland's most capped player, passing Fraser Watts record of 203 caps, but did not bowl or bat.

Just as they had in the previous matches in this series, Scotland lost early wickets, with Calum MacLeod (5), Kyle Coetzer (16) Freddie Coleman (2) and Matt Machan (13) struggling before Mommsen's confident knock.

Matthew Cross also contributed with 23 from 29 balls, partnering Berrington until Davey's arrival in the 33rd over.

Davey hit five fours and reached his half century in the final over.

He then carried on his fine form by taking two wickets in the sixth over of Afghanistan's reply, with a dreadful collapse following.

The 24-year-old Somerset player finished with figures of 6-28, while Wardlaw managed 4-22 as the opening bowlers cleaned up.
