England women dominated the opening match of the New Zealand tour against Northern Spirit.

Captain Charlotte Edwards retired out on 75 in England's imposing total of 342-9 in 50 overs.

Spinner Rebecca Grundy then took 3-15 on her return from a groin injury as the hosts slid to 109-7 in 35 overs.

In order to give the tourists some meaningful practice, the hosts were then set 80 to win from 15 overs, but England prevailed by 17 runs.
