Glamorgan have an injury concern over key fast bowler Michael Hogan just over three weeks before the start of the new championship season.

Hogan suffered a hamstring injury playing for Western Australia in February.

The 33-year-old has been ruled out of the Sheffield Shield final against Victoria following a recurrence of the problem in training.

"We're in touch with Michael Hogan," said Glamorgan head coach Toby Radford.

"He's due to fly over in the next couple of weeks so we'll assess him and hopefully get him fit fast for the start of the season.

Glamorgan begin their championship season away to Leicestershire on 12 April.

Hogan has been a crucial strike bowler for Glamorgan in the last two seasons, claiming 98 wickets in all competitions last season despite missing three weeks on paternity leave.

Radford is not keen to take any chances with one of his top performers.

"Hamstrings can recur so you've got to make sure you're fit before you come back," Radford said.

"He's obviously a key bowler for us but we hope he'll be fit [for Leicester] and he tends to heal quickly."

The county was already considering signing a seam bowler on loan but Radford was not willing to be drawn on whether that search would now be stepped up.

"We're still discussing it, I've had conversations with a number of coaches, we're still looking at that. It could be the start of the season, it could be a little bit later," he said.

In addition to the doubts over Hogan, fellow fast bowler Graham Wagg is suffering from a sore foot after losing a toenail.

But it is not thought that Wagg's injury will threaten his start to the official season.

Last term Glamorgan re-signed James Harris on loan from Middlesex as well as fielding youngster Tom Helm, also on loan from Middlesex.
