Darryl Fitton says "grit and determination" are back in his game after beating Alan Norris to reach the BDO World Championships quarter-finals.

Stockport's Fitton suffered four first-round defeats between 2010 and 2014.

"Alan's a real battler," the 52-year-old, who beat Norris 4-3, said.

"In years gone by I've been the same, but in the last few years I have given up too early. [Now] I think I've got that grit back and a bit of determination."

The 15th seed, who will appear in the sixth World Championship quarter-final of his career on Friday, added: "If you want to brawl with me, you can have a brawl."

Since his World Championship debut in 2003, Fitton has twice been a semi-finalist but has never been involved in a final.

But he is hoping his 13th visit to Frimley Green will prove to be a lucky omen, particularly after seeing second seed Norris miss three match darts to knock him out of the tournament during a sensational second-round match on Wednesday.

"I was told it was my 13th year - maybe it's unlucky for them [the other players] and not unlucky for me," said Fitton.

And when asked if he felt he could go on and lift the title in 2015, he said: "Definitely. There's nobody there that I haven't beaten before. Hopefully I can take it on to the stage."

Fitton will face either Tipton's Jamie Hughes or Middlesbrough's Glen Durrant in the last eight.
