William Fox-Pitt wins second Badminton Horse Trials title

Britain's William Fox-Pitt won his second Badminton Horse Trials title after a clear show jumping round on board Chilli Morning.

The 46-year-old, who won the title in 2004, finished ahead of Germany's Ingrid Klimke, who rode Horseware Hale Bob, while New Zealand's Jonathan Paget was third on Clifton Rush.

Fox-Pitt is the first British Badminton winner since Oliver Townend in 2009.

"It's amazing to win here. It's been a long wait," said Fox-Pitt.

"I'm old now and it might never happen again. I've got no excuse because the horse is great and I didn't want to waste it."

It was Fox-Pitt's 14th four-star crown of his career while Chilli Morning became the first stallion to win an elite four-star event.

Fox-Pitt finished with 39 penalty points, with Klimke on 40.2 and Paget on 44.8.

New Zealand's Andrew Nicholson, on Nereo, led after the dressage and cross country stages but finished sixth after four faults in the show jumping.

Nicola Wilson, on One Too Many, was the highest-placed Briton after Fox-Pitt, finishing in seventh.

Townend, on Armada, started the final round in third but finished 11th.
