The British Olympic Association has named seven athletes to represent Team GB in fencing at London 2012, with three more to be confirmed.

Sophie Williams, Louise-Bond Williams, Corinna Lawrence, Natalia Sheppard, James Davis, Richard Kruse and James Honeybone are in the squad.

"We've got a great blend of experience and youth in the team," said performance manager Alex Newton.

Team GB will compete in all three disciplines of epee, foil and sabre.

The 21-year-old Williams, currently ranked 73rd in the world, is viewed as a big prospect for the future and will compete in women's sabre along with Bond-Williams, 30, who represented Great Britain at the Athens 2004 Olympics.

Sheppard, 28, will make her Olympic debut in the foil event while 11-time British Champion and double Commonwealth Junior Champion Lawrence, 21, is the only athlete selected for the epee event.

Kruse, 28, is set for his third Olympic Games and will compete in the men's foil event will along with 20-year-old Davis - the only British fencer ever to medal at the Cadet European Championships. Honeybone, 21, will represent Team GB in the men's sabre event.

The three additional athletes to take part in the foil team events will be confirmed at a later date.

Newton added: "Richard Kruse is qualifying for his third Olympics and Louise Bond-Williams is being selected for a host nation place for her second.

"Natalia Sheppard is selected having secured qualification at the European Zonal competition.

"Alongside them in host nation places will be the two James's (Honeybone and Davis), Corinna Lawrence and Sophie Williams - all young fencers who will be looking to gain vital experience of the Olympic environment as they make the next significant step in their promising careers."
