Premier League new boys Queens Park Rangers were brought down to earth by League One side Rochdale in the Carling Cup second round.
Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro and Gary Jones scored in either half for Dale.
QPR boss Neil Warnock made eight changes to the side that won at Goodison Park, and his new-look team went behind on four minutes when Akpro slid in at the far post.
Veteran Jones made it safe with a wonderful chip.
Rochdale, who have made a poor start to their campaign, will draw encouragement from a determined display and fully deserved their passage into the third round draw.
Midfielder Jones was the architect of the victory. It was his wonderful pass into the box which set up Ashley Grimes, and his rebounded shot was met by Akpro, who slid in to poke the ball home.
Danny Shittu almost got on the end of a sharp cross as QPR made a lively start to the second half and moments later Taarabt fired wide.
But then Shittu was lucky not concede a penalty when he tugged at the shirt of Grimes as the visitors probed in search of a second goal.
QPR dominated as they pressed for the equaliser but it was Rochdale who struck the telling blow.
Adams picked out Jones and the veteran midfielder chipped the ball over theadvancing Murphy for a wonderfully-taken goal.
