"I like him as a goalkeeper. I spoke to him and he's excited to sign for us," said manager Paolo di Canio.

"As usual when I sign a player I look in their eyes and say 'I like you, you are quality' but obviously I don't promise a place to anybody.

Foderingham must be ready to challenge - Di Canio

"I want him to accept the challenge with Mattia Lanzano and Phil Smith."

Di Canio signalled his intentions to bring in a new keeper on loan after first-choice Smith was ruled out for a month with a hernia problem., external

"He [Smith] had the surgery already, two days ago - everything went OK," confirmed Di Canio.

"After the surgery he came back from Leicester and now he has another two or three days recovery at home with rest. But he already feels more comfortable, even if he is still sore.

"We expect in about four days he can start his recovery and we will be more clear how long it will take. It could be two or three weeks, no more than four.

"It's important he gets a full recovery so that once he comes back he can do his job properly."
