Northampton Town have signed Leicester City goalkeeper Chris Weale on a month's loan.

The 29-year-old will stand in for the injured Shane Higgs, external, with Freddy Hall reverting to substitute goalkeeper.

Manager Aidy Boothroyd said: "He wants to help us and make a contribution to help get us away from where we are.

"Considering our current position, and the calibre and experience of the player, I think we have just signed the best goalkeeper in this division."

He added: "He has come because he wants to play and he wants to work with Tim Flowers.

"When you bring players and characters like that in, you are giving yourselves a great chance of achieving something."

Weale joined the Foxes on a free transfer from Bristol City in 2009, having begun his career at Yeovil, where he made 191 appearances.
