McClaren created history by leading FC Twente to their first Eredivisie title
Former England boss Steve McClaren made a triumphant return to Dutch football as FC Twente hammered Waalwijk 5-0 in his first match back at the club.
McClaren won the Eredivisie title with Twente in 2010 after failing to take England to Euro 2008, external.
His return was welcomed by the club's supporters, who wore 'Welcome Back Steve' T-shirts during Saturday's game.
"Strangely, everything seems the same despite 18 months away and a new group of players," said McClaren.
"It only feels like I've not been here for a couple of weeks over the winter break, so the transition has been smooth and easy for me."
Top-scorer Luuk de Jong netted twice as Twente moved up to third in the Eredivisie table, two points behind leaders AZ Alkmaar.
McClaren, 50, left the club shortly after their title win for German side Wolfsburg, where he endured a short and unsuccessful reign.
He suffered another disappointing spell at the start of this season with Championship strugglers Nottingham Forest before taking up the offer to move back to Holland, external this month.
