Mark Ellis ready to discuss new Torquay United deal

Ellis began his career at Bolton Wanderers before moving to Torquay

Torquay United defender Mark Ellis says he hopes to be able to discuss a new contract with the Plainmoor club soon.

The 23-year-old is out of contract in the summer and has scored three goals in the last four games.

His run in the Gulls team coincides with their remarkable run of 11 wins in 14 League Two matches.

"We're just going to see what happens now, they're going to give me something in writing and we'll sit down and discuss it," he told BBC South West.

Kingsbridge-born Ellis started his career as a trainee at Bolton Wanderers before moving to Torquay, initially on loan, in September 2007.

He made the move permanent signed a new deal in 2010.

And Ellis says he is relishing his run in the Gulls line-up, and his recent goalscoring form.

He headed 2-1 win at Morecambe.

"I think it's just a case of being in the right place at the right time," he said.

"The only opportunity we get as centre-halves to get in the box is at set-pieces and it was another great set-piece from Nicho (Kevin Nicholson). Great credit to him for getting the ball in and I got on the end of it and it's gone in the back of the net."

And with the run that Torquay are currently on, Ellis says the atmosphere in the changing room is excellent.

"It's buzzing, but we can't get complacent.

"We've just got to keep doing what we're doing as a team and working hard and we won't do anything wrong.

"We've got to keep doing what we're doing - there's no reason why we can't be in the top three at the end of it."
