Kettering await Conference decision on points deduction

Kettering Town say they have made payments to football creditors and their players in a bid to avoid a three-point deduction.

The Football Conference fined the Poppies £3,000 last month and gave them a 28 February deadline to settle debts.

The fine has now been paid, but Kettering must wait to find out if they have avoided losing three points.

On Wednesday, the Conference said they were waiting for proof that the football creditors had been paid.

BBC Northampton understands that a final decision may not be made until later this week.

The Poppies are currently 22nd in the Blue Square Bet Premier table.

A three-point deduction would leave the Northamptonshire club three points adrift of safety.

But league officials will decide if this round of payments, funded in part by the club's supporters trust, have met the conditions laid out last month, after the Poppies had failed to provide full wage packets to their squad over the new year period.

Kettering have been shrouded in financial turmoil all season and will face a winding-up order in four weeks time after HM Revenue & Customs' initial attempt to close the club was deferred.

Former Cambridge United chairman George Rolls is thought to be interested in buying Kettering from current owner Imraan Ladak.
