Cheltenham Town have signed Ben Burgess from Notts County and fellow striker Steve MacLean from Yeovil on loan until the end of the season.

Burgess, 30, joined the Magpies from Blackpool in 2010 but was told a year later he could leave on a free.

He stayed to see out the final year of his contract but has scored just four goals in 31 games this term.

MacLean, 29, has not played for Yeovil since January after falling out of favour with manager Gary Johnson.

It is thought Cheltenham were interested in signing the Scot last month but they failed to reach a deal.

Commenting on Burgess' arrival, Robins manager Mark Yates told the club website, external: "I'm delighted to have brought Ben to Cheltenham.

"He's a different option for us as a big target man but he is good with his feet as well. He will only add to what we already have here."

Burgess started his career with Blackburn Rovers and had spells with Stockport and Hull before joining Blackpool in August 2006.

He has made 351 career appearances, scoring 82 goals.

MacLean, who joined the Glovers in the summer, was a regular first-team player at the start of the season under then-manager Terry Skiverton but has played just two games since Johnson's arrival.

He counts Rangers, Sheffield Wednesday, Cardiff and Plymouth amongst his former clubs.
