Scunthorpe United have re-signed defender David Mirfin on a two-year deal, after his contract with Watford was terminated by mutual consent.

The 27-year-old left Glanford Park for the Hornets last summer before returning on loan in January.

Mirfin told BBC Radio Humberside: "I'd spoke to the gaffer a few times and it's a great chance for me to play games again.

"I'm happy to be back and I'm looking forward to the season."

He added: "It was always going to be tough for me at Watford but credit to Gianfranco, he gave me a chance.

"It was a frustrating time there but I don't regret moving because I think I learned a lot from the experience."

He made 95 league appearances for the Iron in his first spell with the club and helped them to promotion from League One in 2008/09.

Meanwhile, French midfielder Damien Mozika, 25, is out of the first three months of the season after undergoing ankle surgery.

Boss Alan Knill said: "I'm gutted for Damien because it's been difficult for him since he came here with niggling injuries.

"We spoke to the specialist and they felt that the quickest way to get him back on the pitch would be surgery."

Mozika joined the Iron from Bury last August and made 19 appearances for them in 2010/11.
