A brace from Danny Kedwell helped Gillingham secure a win against Bradford City in Martin Allen's first League Two game in charge.

Kedwell opened the scoring with an exquisite lob and doubled the lead with a powerful penalty after Garry Thompson's foul on Charlie Lee.

Bradford got back in it when Nahki Wells converted from the spot, after being fouled by Andy Frampton.

But Myles Weston, on debut, sealed the win, finishing low into the corner.

Allen says Gills can play better

"The most important thing is always the result. The opening game is always a tough game.

"It could have been better, particularly in the first half, but I think it was a deserved victory.

"The players have worked so hard, and (it's good) when you don't play as well as you can play and get a 3-1 win.

"Another thing to cope with is the high expectations now."
