Colchester 2-2 Portsmouth

Portsmouth substitute Jordan Obita scored with his first touch to steal a point against Colchester.

The visitors went ahead when Luke Rodgers latched onto Liam Walker's low pass and cooly sliced it home.

Michael Rose equalised for the hosts with a superb 30-yard effort.

Magnus Okuonghae converted Anthony Wordsworth's corner to give the U's the advantage but Obita was on hand to tap into an empty net after Rodgers had struck the post.

Rose keen to secure regular place

Colchester defender Michael Rose told BBC Essex:

"I'd probably put that down as my best goal - I've scored a few free-kicks, but in open play that's got to be up there.

"I was thinking 'if I hit this, it's going over the bar; if I have a touch, I'll get tackled and I'll lose it'.

"In the end I thought 'just hit it' and it went in. I knew it was on its way, I was obviously right behind it, the keeper had a go but I think it was already in before he moved.

"Last year was a write-off for me, but hopefully this year I can kick on and produce a bit more of that."
