Rangers have completed the signing of 24-year-old Greek defender Anestis Argyriou after a successful trial.

The former under-21 international, released by AEK Athens this summer, has signed a two-year contract at Ibrox.

And he will make his debut in the Division Three game away to Berwick Rangers after he received international clearance.

Argyriou, who began his senior career with Panathinaikos, can play at either right-back or in central defence.

He spent two years with AEK but made only 11 appearances.

Argyriou becomes the seventh player to be signed up by Ally McCoist since the old Rangers went into liquidation and a new company took control now playing in Division Three instead of the Scottish Premier League.

He follows former Hearts duo Ian Black and Kevin Kyle, ex-Kilmarnock midfielder Dean Shiels, former St Johnstone striker Francisco Sandaza, former Cruzeiro defender Emilson and ex-Lyon defender Sebastien Faure in committing to the Glasgow club.

McCoist, who lost a number of first-team players because of Rangers' financial problems this summer, has until the end of this week to finalise his squad before a 12-month signing ban comes into force.

United States midfielder Maurice Edu became the latest player to exit Ibrox after agreeing a switch to Stoke City this weekend.
