Bristol Rovers have signed goalkeeper Steve Mildenhall on a permanent deal.

The much-travelled 35-year-old joined the Pirates on loan from Millwall in January and became first-choice keeper.

And after finding himself out of contract at his parent club, Mildenhall has now agreed a two-year deal at Rovers, with the option of a third.

"We are delighted to have signed Steve as he really helped turn our season around last season," chairman Nick Higgs told the club website., external

"During his time with us he became a popular member of the squad, and worked hard to get us out of danger.

"I believe it is vitally important to have a permanent goalkeeper, rather then relying on loan signings, and I believe Steve will be part of a solid defence next season."

Mildenhall started his career at Swindon, his hometown club, before spells with Notts County, Oldham, Grimsby, Yeovil and Southend.

He signed for Millwall in 2010 but spent much of the 2012-13 season on loan, first at Scunthorpe and then Rovers.

Mildenhall made 22 appearances for John Ward's side, keeping nine clean sheets.
