Mikey Harris: Salisbury City appoint youngest manager

Conference Premier newcomers Salisbury City have appointed Mikey Harris as boss, making him English football's youngest full-time manager.

The 28-year-old is four years younger than Oldham boss Lee Johnson, who is the youngest in the Football League.

A former Salisbury midfielder, Harris has been assistant at the non-league club for five years.

He replaces former team-mate Darrell Clarke, who has joined John Ward's team at League Two Bristol Rovers.

"I'm delighted to be given the chance to manage a club that I absolutely love," Harris told BBC Wiltshire.

"I'm really excited about the challenge and I'm looking forward to it."

Harris initially worked as assistant to Tommy Widdrington for two years before Clarke was appointment manager in 2010.

Under Clarke, 35, Salisbury achieved two promotions in three years - most recently as Blue Square Bet South play-off winners.

"It's a good opportunity for me to step up to the plate and show what I can do," added Harris.

"There's no-one that cares about this club as much as I do, so I feel I'm well-placed to do it."
