Gainsborough Trinity dismiss manager Little

Gainsborough Trinity have terminated the contract of manager Brian Little after two years in charge of the Blue Square Bet North club.

The Blues, who finished 18th last season, have conceded eight goals in the first three games of this campaign.

Trinity chairman Peter Swann told BBC Lincolnshire: "Results are the most important thing overall, especially after a tenure as long as Brian's.

"We needed to start quickly but looked like we were going the wrong way."

Little was appointed Trinity manager in September 2009, after predecessor Steve Charles was dismissed only four games into the season.

He led the Blues to 14th in his first campaign but, despite having a sizeable budget and bringing in many experienced players, Trinity had to battle to avoid relegation last season.

Little rebuilt his squad again in the summer but, after opening with a 3-1 home victory over Solihull, the Blues lost 3-0 at Hinckley and 4-0 at Stalybridge.

"I don't know if there's any good time to make a sacking," said Swann. " But you give yourself a better chance if, when things aren't going right, you make it early.

"You want to give yourself as good a chance as possible to push on in the league."

Swann will take temporary charge alongside director of football development Steve Housham.
