Burton Albion have signed striker Rene Howe on a two-year deal.

The 26-year-old was a free agent after departing League Two rivals Torquay at the end of the last campaign.

Former Rushden and Peterborough forward Howe scored 30 goals in 89 games in two seasons at Plainmoor, 16 of which came as top scorer last term.

"We've worked hard to persuade Rene that this is the place to be in order to progress and further his career," Albion boss Gary Rowett said.

"He's a player I certainly believe can play at a higher level."

Howe added: "I had options but I received a call from the manager, we had a long chat and he said all the right things; I can't wait to get started."
