Alfreton Town 0-1 Chester

Jamie Reed's first-half header ended Chester's four-match winless run at Alfreton.

The Conference Premier strugglers hit on the counter attack with Reed latching onto a Lewis Turner cross to nod past goalkeeper Ross Atkins.

John McGrath's 20-yard effort, which blazed over the bar late on, was the closest the Reds came to a leveller.

Chester hung on to record their second successive clean sheet and second victory away from home this term.

Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law:

"I felt for the first 30 minutes they (Chester) came with a plan, they got plenty of people behind the ball, slowed the game down and we enabled them to do that.

"I think we looked the better of the two sides for 30 minutes. We looked the more likely to score, didn't score, and then for some reason, tried to change the plan.

"Then, we have conceded a poor goal. We switched off from a free-kick. We have got five or six bodies in the box, two or three of them are not picking up. It's a poor, poor goal to give away - and then we find ourselves on the back foot."
