Tranmere have eased their defensive worries by signing Barnsley centre-back Jim McNulty on loan for a month.

The 28-year-old is in his third season with the Tykes, but has only made one appearance for the club this term.

McNulty plugs the gap left by centre-back Adam Dugdale's return to parent club Crewe Alexandra on Monday.

"We are low on numbers in defence, so I'm delighted to have signed Jim for a month," manager Ronnie Moore told the Tranmere website., external

"We've got a lot of young players on the pitch at the moment so Jim's experience will be useful. He's a player I've been keen on for a while. He can play in a couple of positions, is big and strong and uses the ball well."

Huddersfield loanee Liam Ridehalgh, who was sent off on his debut against Port Vale on Saturday, will be available for Saturday's game at the County Ground after Tranmere successfully appealed against his dismissal.

Left-back Evan Horwood is nursing an injury, but Danny Holmes should recover from illness in time to face Swindon.
