Middlesbrough's Adam Reach extends Shrewsbury Town loan

Shrewsbury Town have extended young Middlesbrough winger Adam Reach's loan until 1 January.

After scoring on his Town debut, the 20-year-old has gone on to make 14 appearances since arriving in August.

And he admits that the managerial uncertainty at Boro following Tony Mowbray's sacking persuaded him to stay put for now in Shropshire.

"I don't know what's going on with the situation at Middlesbrough," Reach told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"I spoke to Mark Venus, the assistant manager, who is now caretaker manager and he told me it'll take two or three weeks to decide the new manager.

"In that two or three weeks, I can play a lot more games than I would up there. And I'm just looking to get as many goals and assists as I can."

The England Under-20 international, who also scored on his Boro debut in May 2011, has now made 43 career appearances.

In his first loan move away from the North East, having spent a month at Boro's neighbours Darlington two seasons ago, Reach is pleased with the way he has settled in at Shrewsbury.

"It was a bit difficult for the first month," he added. "Being at the other end of the country, away from my friends and family and not knowing anyone.

"But I like to play football so being at a club like Shrewsbury definitely suits me as they like to play.

"It's a tough league with Wolves, Bristol City and Peterborough in it, but, although it's a different challenge to the Championship, it's not as physical as people might think."

Reach, who has been cleared to play in Saturday's FA Cup first round tie at Walsall, is the second on-loan Town player to extend his current deal, following Preston midfielder Nicky Wroe's lead earlier in the week.
