Norwich City's Murphy twins enjoy 'strange' FA Cup substitution

Norwich City teenager Josh Murphy admitted it was an odd feeling to be substituted for his twin brother in Saturday's FA Cup draw with Fulham.

Josh, 18, was replaced by sibling Jacob in the 79th minute for the latter's Canaries debut.

"It was strange. Obviously I wanted to stay on longer," winger Josh told BBC Radio Norfolk.

"But to see my brother come on to make his debut was unbelievable because he's worked so hard."

Josh made his first Norwich appearance in a League Cup tie against Watford earlier this season, scoring in the 3-2 win, but Saturday's visit of the Cottagers was his first start.

And following Jacob's late introduction into the game, the Wembley-born pair can both lay claim to senior appearances for the Norfolk side.

"He's been in the last eight squads now and he just hadn't made the bench," Josh said of his brother.

"To make his debut was unbelievable and made for a great night for the Murphys."

Josh had made a noticeable impact on Norwich's performance against Fulham, making space for two decent efforts on goal and providing the cross for Robert Snodgrass's equaliser.

It was another promising display in a burgeoning career that has included trips to Manchester United, Liverpool, Newcastle and Manchester City already this season.

"If you said two months ago I'd have been on the Norwich bench I'd have have said you were lying," he added.

"But now I've played nine times and at four of the best stadiums in the country. I've scored a goal, made an assist. It's unbelievable."
