Matthew Pennington's header gave Tranmere a win over lowly Crewe, their first victory in six league games.

The teenage defender, on loan from Everton, climbed to nod Jason Koumas's corner into the roof of the net.

Ryan Lowe and Jake Kirby both had chances to extend the lead before the visitors had two penalty claims turned down in quick succession.

Cole Stockton almost made it two in injury time but his 25-yard shot was well saved by Ben Garratt.
