Wrexham appoint Kevin Wilkin as manager - but Billy Barr leaves

Kevin Wilkin has been appointed as new Wrexham manager on a two-year deal.

The former Nuneaton coach, 46, succeeds Andy Morrell while caretaker boss Billy Barr leaves with immediate effect.

"We are thrilled to have landed one of the most sought-after young managers outside the Football League," said a Wrexham statement.

"Kevin will take charge of the team with immediate effect, leading them out in the home game against Salisbury City this Saturday."

Former Northampton Town player Wilkin, who had been in charge at Nuneaton since 2006, won three promotions, taking the club from the Southern League Division One Midlands up to the Conference Premier.

Former Carlisle United and Halifax defender Barr, who was interviewed for the vacancy, spent two-and-a-half years with Wrexham.

He served as Morrell's assistant manager before taking caretaker charge, enjoying two wins during his six games in charge - both against Hereford United.

"Billy has been a popular figure at the club and we thank him for his hard work," the statement continued.

"We are very grateful for the integrity shown by Billy and the professional manner in which he has led the team during the last few weeks."

Wrexham said all other members of staff were unaffected by the changes and further announcements would be made in due course.

Nuneaton chief executive Ian Neale announced through a club statement on Thursday that Wilkin was to leave Boro after nearly six years at the club.
