Torquay United have signed former Mansfield winger Louis Briscoe on a two-year contract.

The 26-year-old was released by the Stags last month after five-and-a-half years at Field Mill.

He was a fixture in the team which won promotion from the Conference in 2013 but played only three games last season in League Two.

Briscoe is manager Chris Hargreaves' first signing since Torquay were relegated from the Football League.

"I always liked Luis as a player either when playing against him or watching him," Hargreaves told BBC Sport.

"I'm really pleased to get him because I know when was speaking to several clubs, some of which were in League Two.

"He's had a real good spell for three seasons, scored a lot of goals and was in a play-off team, a cup final team and eventually a team that won the league with Mansfield. His CV for a young lad is what I'm after.

"He's exciting, quick, direct and a great character, so I'm delighted to have him on board."

He made 199 appearances and scored 34 league goals for the Stags, but found his chances limited in League Two last season and led him to be sent out on loan to Conference Premier side Nuneaton.
