Oxford United have been the subject of multiple takeover bids this summer, reports BBC Radio Oxford.

The League Two club, who finished nine points outside the play-off places last season, have been owned by businessman Ian Lenagan for eight years.

Former West Brom goalkeeper Mark Ashton has been linked with a move for the club, having previously worked at boardroom level at Watford and Wycombe.

A consortium of Oxfordshire businessmen are also believed to be interested.

Woodstock-based Lenagan, who also owns rugby league side Wigan Warriors, has said in the past that there is always interest in the club and he takes time to see if the approaches are genuine.

It is understood that Lenagan has not been looking to offload the U's, but his investment in the running of the club is now getting towards the £8m mark.

However, any realistic help with future funding going forward might be attractive.
