Kenny McLean has signed a two-year contract extension with St Mirren, and the Buddies have also secured a Manchester City youth star on loan.

Midfielder McLean was reportedly a target for clubs in England when his deal expired this summer.

"Having looked at various options I decided it would be better to stay at St Mirren and continue my development here," Mclean told the club's website., external

St Mirren have also signed defender Ellis Plummer on loan from City.

McLean, 22, enjoyed a fine campaign with the Paisley side last term, netting seven goals as they retained their place in the Scottish Premiership.

And their top flight status helped convince Manchester City to send Plummer north on loan for a season.

The 19-year-old, who can play at left back or centre back, is highly rated at the Etihad Stadium and recently signed a new two year contract.

He has been capped by England at under-16 and under-17 level.

Patrick Vieira, head coach of City's elite development squad, said: "This is an exciting development opportunity for Ellis, the experience of playing in the Scottish Premiership will be of huge benefit to him.

"I'm looking forward to seeing the progress he makes up in Scotland"
