The 21-year-old, who scored two goals in six appearances during a loan spell at Crawley last season, has agreed a two-year deal with the Reds.
Edwards, a Wales Under-21 international, came through the youth ranks at Swansea, but failed to make a senior appearance for the club.
He is the West Sussex side's 10th signing of the summer.
"We all know what Gwion can give us, but I think there is a lot more to come from him," Crawley boss John Gregory told the club website., external
"He's at a great age to develop his game and really move his career forward and I'm sure our supporters will be as pleased as I am that we have him now for the next two years."
