Hamilton Academical 4-1 Alloa Athletic

Hamilton Academical were comfortable winners over Alloa Athletic in the second round of the Scottish League Cup.

Tony Andreu's volley put Accies ahead but Greig Spence curled home to level the match before half-time.

Martin Canning nodded the hosts back in front midway through the second half.

And Louis Longridge's header followed by Eamonn Brophy's strike made sure of Hamilton's place in Wednesday's third-round draw.

The win was a fourth in succession for Alex Neil's side, who are currently second in the Premiership.

It did not take Accies too long to get ahead as Danny Redmond's outswinging corner was headed to the edge of the area where the waiting Andreu cushioned a fine volley into the top left-hand corner.

The Wasps set about levelling straight away and Stephen Simmons' header was well saved by goalkeeper Michael McGovern.

Spence then went through on goal after robbing Mikey Devlin but the eventual shot was wide.

However, Spence made amends when he latched on to a Graeme Holmes pass and fired high past McGovern.

It was from a second-half corner that Hamilton regained the lead as Canning held off his marker to head Redmond's deep delivery past John Gibson.

Alloa had a couple of openings in their quest for a second equaliser but the Championship side's final ball let them down.

And Longridge all but sealed victory for Accies when he nodded in Jason Scotland's cross.

There was still time for Scotland's replacement Brophy to run on to Andreu's through ball and finish coolly for Hamilton's fourth.
