Mathieu Manset: Walsall bring in experienced French striker

Walsall have responded to their slow start to the new League One season by making striker Mathieu Manset their seventh summer signing.

The 25-year-old Frenchman has been on trial at Bescot, having impressed in a couple of pre-season friendlies.

But boss Dean Smith has now reacted to the Saddlers' lack of goals, having scored just twice in four league games - both of them from Tom Bradshaw.

"The style of play suits me. I like to pass and move," said Manset.

"It will be good to play under Dean Smith and Richard O'Kelly. They love their football and do things the right way.

"The set-up is excellent here and I feel that I can really improve by being in this environment."

Manset is expected to make his Saddlers debut at fellow strugglers Scunthorpe United, one of five League One teams still without a win.

After beginning his career with Le Havre, Manset was first brought over to English football in 2009 by Graham Turner at Hereford United.

Since then, he has pitched up at Reading, Carlisle United and Coventry City, as well as playing in China, Switzerland and for the second half of last season in Belgium with Royal Antwerp.
