Southend United have signed Crystal Palace defender Jerome Binnom-Williams on a one-month loan deal.

The 19-year-old will cover left-back Ben Coker, who is ruled out for four months with an elbow injury.

Binnom-Williams started Palace's 3-0 League Cup win over Walsall in August and played three times while on loan at Conference side Forest Green last term.

"It was (ex-Palace boss) Tony Pulis's recommendation that swung it for me," boss Phil Brown told BBC Essex.

"He's six-foot two, quick, can run all day. He can handle the ball. The down side is that he hasn't really played league football.

"The academies are there for this reason and hopefully he will go on to have a long and illustrious career."
