Leyton Orient: Russell Slade to remain as manager after talks

Russell Slade will continue as Leyton Orient manager after holding talks with owner Francesco Becchetti following Tuesday's 1-1 draw at Notts County.

The 53-year-old is under pressure after a poor start to the League One season.

"There was a frank and honest exchange and discussion with the president, with a plan to go forward," Slade told BBC London 94.9.

"That still involves me at this moment in time. I think communication is going to be key over the coming weeks."

Becchetti, who bought the League One club in July, voiced his concerns with the team's results after Saturday's home defeat by Colchester.

Slade said Orient needed to beat Notts County "or that will be curtains", and he held talks with Becchetti, sporting director Mauro Milanese and chief executive Alessandro Angelieri after the draw at Meadow Lane.

"I am an honest man and I say what I think and what I believe in," Slade said.

"The president is a passionate man as well. We have to find that common ground in terms of the way we go forward."

Orient were beaten in the play-off final last season but have taken only seven points from their first seven matches of the new campaign and sit above the relegation zone on goal difference.

Slade, the fourth longest-serving manager in the top four divisions, admitted his side are "not perfect".

"We are not the finished article and there are still problems with the team," he said. "These are challenging times for me and the group.

"Life is always going to be full of obstacles. It is a question of getting over those obstacles and moving forward as a football club.

"This is a new era. It is a complete new learning curve and you have got to find ways of dealing with it and making it work."

Slade said he is determined to remain at the Matchroom Stadium and help the club to progress.

"I love the football club and I think the fans know that," the former Yeovil and Brighton manager said.

"I have made a lot of sacrifices - my family live a long way from London but we make it work. I love my job and you don't want that taken away from you.

"I don't want to finish yet. I have still got a job to do and have still got a lot to prove to myself. I still have that desire and ambition to take the club into the Championship. That won't change."
