League One side Crawley Town have signed former Bristol City midfielder Marvin Elliott on a monthly contract.

The 30-year-old scored 28 goals in 262 appearances for the Robins before being released at the end of last season.

"Marvin is hugely experienced at both Championship and League One level and that was a big factor in our decision," said Reds boss John Gregory.

"He has still got lots to offer and he has the opportunity to play a big part for us this season."

Elliott came through the youth ranks at Millwall and went on to feature 164 times for the Lions, including an outing in the FA Cup final defeat by Manchester United in 2004.

The Jamaica international left the south east London club to join Bristol City in the summer of 2007.

Elliott missed the end of last season through injury and departed Ashton Gate at the end of the campaign. He had a trial with Yeovil Town over the summer and has been training with Crawley for the past week.

Gregory says Elliott's stay at the West Sussex club could be extended if the move proves successful.

"We are going to take it month by month at the moment but if he impresses and does as well as I know he can then he could become a very important member of our squad," added Gregory.

"He has had other offers and we're delighted he's come to Crawley."
