Southampton signing Sadio Mane will join his new team-mates on Friday after being granted a work permit, Saints boss Ronald Koeman has confirmed.

Senegal forward Mane, 22, was a £10m transfer deadline day signing from Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg.

He will not feature against Swansea in the Premier League on Saturday.

Koeman said: "He will be assessed [on Friday] and I expect him to be involved against Arsenal in the League Cup next Tuesday."

He added: "Yesterday I got the message everything is done. He is flying back today and he will arrive tomorrow.

"It's too close for Saturday."

Koeman also confirmed striker Jay Rodriguez is recovering more quickly than expected from his long-term knee injury.

"He's doing well; everything is going very well," he said.

"I am looking forward, because it will be like having a new signing in December or January."

Koeman added that striker Shane Long has overcome a head injury sustained in their 4-0 win against Newcastle.
