Northampton Town midfielder Ryan Watson has returned to parent club Leicester City for treatment on a knee injury.
The 21-year-old had played five times for the Cobblers and was supposed to be on loan at Sixfields until January.
But he has suffered damage to his cruciate ligament and will be assessed by the Premier League club.
"We wish Ryan a speedy recovery and hopefully we can look to resurrect the deal when he is fit again," said Cobblers boss Chris Wilder.
"I can't speak highly enough of Ryan. He has done really well for us and his attitude and desire are first class."
